COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM

Routine eye exams are a significant part of preventative eye care.

1. Visual acuity test. This measurement of vision determines how well you see letters of various sizes on the eye chart.

2. Dilated eye exam. Drops are placed in your eyes to widen, or dilate, the pupils. Your doctor uses a special magnifying lens to examine your retina and optic nerve for signs of damage and other eye problems. After the exam, your close-up vision may remain blurred for several hours.

Tonometry

3. Tonometry. An instrument that measures the eye pressure. Numbing drops may be applied to your eye for this test.

At the comprehensive exam, your doctor may order additional testing related to the findings. These may include visual field analysis and pachymetry.

4. Visual field analysis. It provides valuable information our experienced eye doctors at Eye Institute of Marin use to diagnose glaucoma and other conditions.

5. Pachymetry. A numbing drop is applied to your eye. An ultrasonic instrument is used to measure the thickness of your cornea.
